Tell us more about your book “With Kindness” what is it about?
There are two women that love one another, but have to spend time apart. The book handles what happens to each in that time and after it.
Who would this book most appeal to? Who is your target market?
Young adult readers might get a kick out of it, but it is aimed at a literary crowd.
What was your inspiration for this book?
Putin had something of a stranglehold on politics at the time I wrote it and I wanted to see him hurt, badly, by someone. The characters to do it made themselves and I wrote of their exploits.
Harper and Lane, seem to have a perfect idyllic life, but yet there is a lot of mystery and adventure. What was your favourite scene for each of them individually and together as a couple?
Individually, I think I loved most when Harper and Lane both get their periods at the same time, on opposite sides of the world. It might sound a little bit vulgar, but it showcased their intense bond as well as the very different situations they were in. When they were together in the opening scene, that was idyllic and I like it for that.
Will there be a sequel to your book “With kindness”?
This is the only book of mine that I would sequel off, so if one gets to do it, it is this one.
Tell us more about you, where are you from and what do you do aside from write books?
I have lived in beach town after beach town my whole life. I have made a living writing for half of my adult life and lived the other half hating my jobs.
Thinking about Harper and Lane, which character do you most akin to, or are there piece of you in each… or perhaps they are nothing like you?
These two couldn’t be less like me and that’s why I love them. They remind me nothing of myself, though some of their experiences are ones I have drawn from my own life. Their reactions are so very different from mine, though.
Who would be your favourite author, and what would be your favourite book?
Catch 22 is one of a handful of favorites. My favorite author is Gabriel Garcia Marquez for opening up magic realism as a genre.
What will you work on next? Do you have any ideas for books outside the Harper and Lane storyline, or will you be looking into new ventures yourself?
I have an idea that reminds me a little too much of my first book, about a gang member, his day, and him going home to his daughter. It isn’t something I have the time for while I try to make a living as a freelancer, but it is something I idly think about doing.
Where can our readers find out more about you and your books? Is there any way for them to contact you?
I like to work out of my twitter @awexzandra where I can be messaged about getting a free book, which is a standing offer to anyone that wants one.
