You can have an online business and no one absolutely will be aware of the existence of your website. The fact that you have an online presence is therefore never a guarantee of sales. This book will show you what you need to do to ensure that your presence online does not go unnoticed. The way to do that is to have your website show up on the first page of Google, which is by far the biggest of the search engines.

Is this book aimed at internet gurus, SEO experts, or can anyone pick up this book and make a use of it?

This is a book that anyone can pick up and make use of. It is not aimed at internet gurus or SEO experts.

Is it written solely for Businesses?  Or could, say an indie author, use the skills and techniques within the book help them increase their book Google ranking?

Anyone with products they want to market online can use the strategies illustrated in the book to get themselves on the first page of Google for their niche market. It is not just for businesses, anyone with a web presence can use the book.

Without giving too much away can you give one free tip that our readers would find useful in increasing their page ranking?

Keywords! Your keywords can make or break you!!  The killer keyword secret is so simple, but it can be missed so easily – make sure that what you have as your keywords are actually the words that your potential customers are looking for when searching for your products online. Use the most common and simple language. It might even be a good idea to ask your friends and family to tell you what they will type into the search engines if they were looking for your products, you will be surprised that what they come up with will be different from your ideas. Use as many keywords as possible. 

Another tip is to use URLs that will make it easy for Google to index your website, so avoid dashes, dots and other symbols in your URL.

I’m sure you have come across some really bad mistakes or ventures that have been a waste of time and money in the hope of trying to increase their web presence and google ranking.  Can you tell us about any of these?

I have seen people who desperately want to get on first page of Google respond to emails promising to get them on, if they buy thousands of backlinks for some cheap amount. These emails should be considered spam in the first instance. Secondly suddenly generating a large number of backlinks overnight will arouse the suspicion of search engines as this process normally takes time.  What ends up happening is that Google penalises such sites, so those website owners not only end up wasting time and money but they also end up being in worse situations than when they started off. Believe me getting penalised by Google is something that should be avoided at all costs!

This book is strictly only for people that want to generate sales from their website. It doesn’t just let you in on the secrets of getting on the first page of Google but also the pitfalls to avoid so you don’t do your website more harm than good in your bid to get there. It unleashes some tips on how not to just attract traffic to your website, but also how to present your site so that visitors convert to customers. Tell us more about you, who are you, other than the author of this book?

I am married to a wonderful man, I celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary in January. I am a mother of three amazing adult children. I run a Social Media Marketing and Reputation Management Consultancy Firm and I am also a Speaker and Trainer, my specialty obviously being Social Media Marketing and Reputation Management. 

You have a passion for corporate governance, and although most of our readers will be individuals, Corporate Governance can still play a part… or more so self-governance.   What are the important steps or factors we should take to ensure we are successful?

There are a number of steps that we as individuals that we could take towards succesful self-governance, I will mention a few:-

1.   Clear vision: It is imperative that each one of us has goals and strategies for achieving them. Having the vision is one thing; you must also know how you are going to achieve it. If I were to ask you what your vision is for 1 year, 2 years or 5 years, would you know?

2.   Discipline: If we have beautiful goals but we can’t mobilise ourselves to implement the plans for our goals, we will get nowhere fast. Good self-governance requires us having the discipline and commitment to implement our goals.

3.   Integrity and ethics: As individuals it is critical that have a general culture of integrity in our lives and also have high ethical standards. We have to do whatever it takes to creat and cultivate this cultivate this culture.

4.   Accountability: This is crucial for individuals. It can sometimes be more difficult to manage one’s own time if we are not accountable to anyone say for instance in a work context. When we set go?

5.   Responsibility: We have to perform our duties to the best of our abilities and  accept responsibility for our behaviour and short comings, we must not pass the buck, so to speak.

What will you be working on next; do you have any plans for more books, or other ventures?

Yes I do, I am going to write more books in the area of reputation management. I am also going to be doing extensive work on an organisation that I have recently set up – www.digitallyeducate.org.uk. We are hoping to take digital education to every community including the remotest parts of the world.
